Profile
My name is Logan, and I am a senior in Biomedical Engineering. I completed my first internship with Tyson Foods in Union City, TN, where I served as a Food Safety and Quality Assurance intern. In this role, I oversaw and performed quality control and safety inspections during the production of McDonald's chicken products. This experience provided me with valuable insight into the operations of a manufacturing facility and underscored the importance of ensuring product quality for the company's reputation and consumer safety. As a capstone project, I designed modifications to the production plant that reduced the amount of inedible meat product produced. This initiative not only saved the company and our customers money but also minimized food waste.
My second and third rotations were completed with Siemens Healthineers in Knoxville, TN. During that eight-month term, I worked as a Systems Engineering co-op. In this role, I participated in various activities that helped pioneer the future of PET/CT scanners. This experience allowed me to apply and enhance the skills I learned in my classes through real-world applications. Some of my notable accomplishments included creating an accurate power model for nearly every component in the system and developing a program that automatically co-registers PET and CT images to determine the offset distance between the two. Additionally, I learned about and participated in the processes of defining, approving, and testing a medical system for patient use.
Both of these opportunities have provided me with real-world examples of what it is like to be an engineer from both manufacturing and R&D perspectives. I also had the chance to meet a variety of people with diverse backgrounds, which helped me learn about different aspects of the engineering field and expand my professional network.
In the future, I aspire to continue designing medical devices for use in the medical field, specifically in the diagnostic imaging sector. I am passionate about helping patients receive accurate diagnoses and providing physicians with the best possible tools to reach conclusions about their patients' health concerns.
In my spare time, I like to spend time with my friends and family and go exploring throughout Knoxville. Additionally, I like to make trips to the Great Smoky Mountains to go hiking, backpacking, or just have fun!
