Undergraduates who seek a co-op or internship are encouraged to register with our office and go through an orientation and advisement process. Only students who complete this process are eligible to be referred by our staff to employers for their co-op and internship needs.
Getting Started
Three steps are required to complete the registration process:
Register an account with the Office of Engineering Professional Practice. A resume is required to complete the online profile. Email coop@utk.edu to request instructions or a resume template, if needed.
An experienced Co-op Ambassador will review your resume, create an office file for you, and answer preliminary questions about the program. Email coop@utk.edu or call 865-974-5323, or stop by 161 Zeanah Engineering Complex during our office hours between 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
After orientation with an ambassador, please make an appointment with your co-op/internship advisor, who will go over specifics such as company interest and career planning. Please bring a copy of your resume or have it uploaded onto your Handshake profile.
Co-op Program
- Three semesters of increasing responsibility
- Alternate between semesters of work and school
- Stay with the same employer
- Gain academic credit for assignment
Internship Program
- Single term with one employer
- Typically summer
- Gain academic credit for assignment
