Why Research?

Identifying Research Opportunities

Each year, TCE students push the boundaries of engineering and technology by supporting research projects. Learn more about the variety of opportunities to get involved below.

Tickle College of Engineering Undergraduate Research Program

The TCE Undergrad Research Program is open to first-year and sophomore engineering students. It is designed to support undergraduate students seeking their first research experience.

Students work with a faculty mentor to apply to the program for funding and support. Applications for the TCE Undergraduate Research Program open in September. Click here for more details.

Research Centers

Research centers are composed of a group of faculty and staff conducting translational research in a specific subject area. Centers hire students to support their work throughout the year. Learn more about TCE’s research centers.

Spark Innovation Center

The Spark Innovation Center at UT Research Park focuses on entrepreneurship development and commercialization of regional technology-based startup companies.

In addition to laboratory space, top-level mentorship, and business model development, Spark offers tech start-ups support from students for research and development through the Spark Scholars program.

Interested students can apply to become a Spark Scholar and assist with materials processing research, product development support, marketing, and more. Click here to learn more and apply.

Faculty Labs

Engineering faculty conduct research in independent labs and often need students to support their work. Students may inquire with faculty members working in subject areas of interest for opportunities.
